The hand-blown glass from Tonalá, Jalisco, embodies a centuries-old tradition of Mexican craftsmanship that has its origins in the 16th century. The art of glassblowing was introduced by the Spanish colonizers, who brought their European techniques with them and established them in Mexico. In Tonalá, a historic center for ceramic art, this technique found particularly fertile ground.

The glass is made using the “vidrio soplado” method, which involves shaping molten glass using a blowpipe. This technique allows for the creation of unique and personalized pieces, as each glass is given a personal touch by the hand of the artisan. The colorful spots of color on the glass are created by integrating colored glass pieces into the hot, molten glass mass. This technique, known as “murrina” or “fused glass,” gives each drinking glass its distinctive, vibrant patterns and reflects the cultural and artistic diversity of the region.
