Aguacate

The avocado (aguacate) has its origins in the tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America. Archaeological evidence suggests that the avocado was domesticated around 5,000 to 7,000 years ago. The earliest indications of its use come from present-day Mexico, where it was cultivated by early civilizations such as the Olmecs, and later by the Maya and Aztecs.

The Olmecs (circa 1200–400 BC) are one of the earliest cultures in Mexico known to incorporate avocado into their diet, as archaeological sites have uncovered avocado pits. The Aztecs (circa 1300–1521 AD) called the avocado "ahuacatl," meaning "testicle" in their language, Nahuatl, and it was an integral part of their diet and culture.

The spread of the avocado beyond Mexico began in the 16th century with Spanish colonization, when the fruit was introduced to Europe. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the avocado continued its journey through international trade, eventually reaching many other parts of the world.
